Mashrafe Mortaza, the captain of Sylhet Strikers in the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), has decided to take a break from the tournament to prioritize his political career. Mortaza, a member of parliament from the Awami League, was recently re-elected in the country’s general elections. Has been appointed as the party’s whip in parliament.
Despite struggling with an injury, Mashrafe Mortaza played in Sylhet Strikers’ first five matches, all of which ended in losses. His decision to participate in the tournament while managing an injury sparked controversy, with concerns raised about his preparedness and impact on the BPL’s integrity.
In response to Mortaza’s decision to take a break, the Sylhet Strikers franchise expressed gratitude for his commitment thus far. They stated that they would welcome him back when available, considering his political commitments and schedule.
During Mortaza’s absence, Mohammad Mithun will take over the captaincy for Sylhet Strikers. The team is set to face Durdanto Dhaka in their upcoming match on February 2.
