New Zealand has announced their squads for the T20I and ODI series against Sri Lanka over the New Year. Notably, uncapped batter Bevon Jacobs has earned his maiden T20I call-up following impressive domestic performances. Jacobs recently smashed a 16-ball 39 in a warm-up game against Sri Lanka and maintained a strike rate of 188.73 in the Super Smash for Canterbury Kings. The 24-year-old was also signed by the Mumbai Indians for INR 30 lakh in the IPL auction. However, Jacobs will only feature in the T20I series.

Senior players Kane Williamson and Devon Conway are unavailable as they are participating in the SA20 competition. Rachin Ravindra, Daryl Mitchell, and Matt Henry return after missing New Zealand’s recent white-ball tour of Sri Lanka. Mitchell Santner will lead both squads, having taken over the white-ball captaincy from Williamson.
The T20I squad also includes Zak Foulkes, Mitch Hay, and Tim Robinson, who debuted during the previous Sri Lanka tour. Meanwhile, the ODI squad sees experienced players like Tom Latham, Will O’Rourke, and Will Young return. Latham will resume his role as wicketkeeper-batter, adding depth to the lineup alongside O’Rourke and Young.
Luke Ronchi will serve as head coach for the series, allowing Gary Stead a well-deserved break.
