Wahab and Razzaq Removed from PCB Selection Committee

Following Pakistan’s disappointing T20 World Cup campaign, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has made swift changes to its selection committee, removing Wahab Riaz and Abdul Razzaq from their roles as selectors. Razzaq, who recently joined the committee for both men’s and women’s teams, will also cease his involvement in the women’s team selection. The PCB is expected to formally announce these changes later this week.

Despite earlier relieving Wahab of his position as chief selector, he continued to wield significant influence within the committee. However, his perceived leadership role and the committee’s decisions drew criticism, prompting internal frustrations. The PCB confirmed the termination of their services, hinting at a reconstitution of the selection committee structure, including the eventual appointment of a new chief selector.

The departure marks a significant shift for Wahab, previously close to PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi and serving as caretaker sports minister under him. Naqvi, keen to uphold accountability, has overseen these changes, signaling a departure from past practices in player selection. The PCB has seen frequent changes in leadership within the selection committee in recent years, highlighting ongoing instability.

The remaining members of the selection committee include the head coach, captains across formats, Mohammad Yousuf, Asad Shafiq, Bilal Afzal, and a data analyst, emphasizing a diverse composition aimed at balanced decision-making in team selections.
