Brisbane Heat secured a dominant nine-wicket win over Sydney Thunder to advance to the WBBL final, after a standout performance from Jemimah Rodrigues and an unbeaten 53 from Georgia Redmayne. Despite battling a left wrist injury, Rodrigues hit 43 off 30 balls, though she had to retire hurt after the 10th over of the chase. The injury occurred while attempting to save a boundary during Thunder’s innings, and she grew increasingly uncomfortable while batting, especially after a yorker from Taneale Peschel.

Rodrigues was fortunate to be dropped three times during her innings but made the most of it, adding 75 runs in partnership with Redmayne. Once Rodrigues retired, Redmayne took control and steered the team to victory with 28 balls to spare.
Earlier, Heat’s bowlers dominated the Challenger final. After opting to bowl first, Heat reduced Thunder to 69 for 7, with spin from Charli Knott and a record WBBL eighth-wicket stand between Peschel and Hannah Darlington (64 runs). Despite the loss of key batters early on, Darlington and Peschel helped Thunder recover to 133 for 7.
Heat’s fielding and bowling were exceptional throughout, with Jess Jonassen leading the charge. She took a first-ball wicket and also pulled off a brilliant catch at mid-off. Her leadership, combined with the aggressive bowling from Grace Parsons and Nicola Hancock, ensured that Thunder’s batting collapse continued. The match was a testament to Heat’s all-around performance, but the fitness of Rodrigues will be a key concern ahead of the final.
