Before the T20 World Cup 2024 began, there was significant debate over Bangladesh’s cricket team decision to include Tanzim Sakib in the squad ahead of Mohammad Saifuddin. This selection sparked criticism from fans who felt Saifuddin was in better form, especially after his performances in the recent Bangladesh Premier League.
However, the selectors opted for Tanzim Sakib, seeing him as a more aggressive choice among the seamers alongside Taskin Ahmed, Mustafizur Rahman, and Shoriful Islam. Despite initial doubts, Tanzim Sakib’s justified his selection with an impressive display in a recent T20 World Cup match against South Africa. He emerged as Bangladesh’s top wicket-taker, claiming three wickets for just 18 runs in his four overs.
Bangladesh ultimately fell short in their chase against South Africa, but Towhid Hridoy, a key player in the team, defended Sakib’s inclusion, highlighting his capability and recent good form. “We all know Tanzim Sakib is very much capable, and we trust him,” Hridoy remarked, emphasizing Sakib’s positive impact on the game.
Tanzim Sakib himself expressed confidence in his abilities, stating that his focus remains solely on cricket performance whenever he gets the opportunity to represent his country. “Performance is my job,” Sakib declared, dismissing any need to prove himself. “I’m ready to deliver at any level.”
