England cricket legend Sir Ian Botham recently survived a harrowing incident when he fell into a crocodile-infested river in North Australia. Botham was fishing in the Moyle River with former Australian rival Merv Hughes, marking a rare reunion for the two icons who once shared a fierce cricket rivalry. The unexpected accident occurred when Botham lost his footing trying to board their boat, becoming entangled in ropes, which led him to tumble into the water.

Sharing the experience on Instagram, Sir Ian Botham recounted the terrifying moments and credited Hughes for his swift rescue. “I was out of the water quicker than I went in. Quite a few sets of eyes were having a peep at me,” he revealed. Reflecting on the incident, Botham added, “Luckily, I had no time to think about what was in the water. The guys were brilliant; it was just one of those accidents. It was all very quick, and I’m OK now.”
At 68, Botham continues to embrace adventure, but this experience was undoubtedly intense. Botham and Hughes, well-known for their intense on-field battles, are now set to join forces in the commentary box for the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024. Their commentary collaboration marks a notable moment as India and Australia prepare for a five-match Test series starting November 22 in Perth. India will need a decisive 4-0 win to qualify for the World Test Championship finals.
Additionally, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma might miss the opening Test, as reports suggest he’s expecting his second child with his wife, Ritika Sajdeh. As India aims to secure a spot in the WTC final, the series promises high stakes and intense competition.
