Tahlia Wilson’s Fifty Leads Australia A to Win Over India A in Opening T20

Tahlia Wilson’s rapid half-century and a crucial middle-order finish helped Australia A secure a hard-fought five-run victory over India A in the first T20 match of their multiformat series. Australia A posted 163 for 5, with Wilson scoring 50 off 33 balls and Katie Mack adding 39. Despite a strong bowling performance from Priya Punia, who took 3 for 33, India A could only manage 158 for 6 in their chase.

Wilson’s innings included a 74-run opening stand with Mack, but Australia A struggled midway through their innings, losing 5 wickets for 42 runs. Nicole Faltum and Maddy Darke’s late contributions, including 31 runs off the last two overs, pushed the total to a competitive 163.

In response, India A was kept under pressure, with Punia’s unbeaten 76 being the standout performance. She and Tanuja Kanwar added 64 runs for the third wicket, but the required rate proved challenging. Kanwar’s smart stumping by Faltum and Punia’s three run-outs, including a pair of boundaries against Charli Knott, fell just short. Left-arm spinner Sophie Day’s economical bowling, allowing just 19 runs from her four overs, was key in limiting the chase.

Wilson’s solid start and a late surge from Darke and Faltum bolstered Australia A’s innings. The second T20 takes place at Allan Border Field on Friday. The series will continue over the weekend and wrap up with three one-dayers and a four-day game.
