England’s star batter Joe Root has reached a career-best rating in the updated ICC Test rankings. Root’s outstanding performance in the Pakistan Tests earned him a rating of 932, surpassing his previous best by nine points. This achievement places him among an elite group of only 16 players, including India’s Virat Kohli, to have surpassed a rating of 932 in the history of Test cricket.

Joe Root’s commanding performance in the Multan Test played a key role in this accomplishment. Root scored a magnificent double century in the first Test at Multan Cricket Stadium, amassing 262 runs from 375 deliveries. His brilliance helped England post a staggering 823-run total in their first innings. Root’s performance not only solidified his place among the greats but also earned him his career-high ranking.
Meanwhile, Harry Brook, Root’s partner-in-crime, also made significant gains in the rankings. Brook’s explosive triple century against Pakistan propelled him 11 places up to share the second spot with New Zealand’s Kane Williamson. In the process, he surpassed Virat Kohli, who dropped to seventh in the standings.
From an Indian perspective, leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi made notable progress in the T20I rankings. Bishnoi moved up four places to share the eighth spot with Fazalhaq Farooqi in the bowlers’ rankings. Additionally, Gudakesh Motie (up two spots to second) and Maheesh Theekshana (up five places to fifth) have also made significant gains following their performances in the West Indies vs Sri Lanka T20Is.
