India faced England in the T20 World Cup 2024 semi-final, where skipper Rohit Sharma‘s leadership shone alongside impressive performances from Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav. India avenged their 2022 defeat by delivering a commanding 68-run victory over defending champions England.

Rohit Sharma made history by becoming the first Indian captain to lead the country in three ICC global finals within just 12 months: the 2023 World Test Championship, 2023 ODI World Cup, and now the T20 World Cup. He contributed a crucial 57 off 39 balls on a challenging pitch, guiding India to a total of 171 for 7 in 20 overs.
Suryakumar Yadav played a key role with his 47 off 36 balls, while Hardik Pandya‘s quickfire 23 off 13 balls, including two massive sixes, added crucial runs. Ravindra Jadeja (17) and Axar Patel (10) also made valuable contributions.
In response, England struggled from the outset, losing five wickets by the halfway mark and eventually getting all out for 103 in 16.4 overs. Axar Patel (3/23 in 4 overs) and Kuldeep Yadav (3/19 in 4 overs) starred with the ball, supported by Jasprit Bumrah (2/12 in 2.4 overs) who took crucial wickets.
India, the 2007 champions, will now face South Africa in the final in Barbados on Saturday. The victory was a redemption from their heavy defeat in the 2022 semi-final, where England had dominated under similar conditions in Adelaide.
