Sri Lanka Announces ODI Squad for West Indies Series; Madushanka Returns, Asalanka to Lead

Following their impressive 2-1 win in the T20I series, Sri Lanka has named a 16-member squad for the upcoming three-match ODI series against West Indies. Charith Asalanka will lead the side, aiming to continue the team’s momentum against the visitors. The ODI series kicks off at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Kandy on October 20, 2024. The second and third matches are set for October 23 and October 26, respectively.

Sri Lanka is keen to build on their T20I success and will look to make the most of their home advantage in the 50-over format. Left-arm seamer Dilshan Madushanka returns to the squad after missing the India series due to injury. His comeback strengthens the bowling attack. Additionally, Sri Lanka has included two uncapped players: Chamindu Wickramasinghe, an all-rounder with both batting and bowling skills, and Nishan Madushka, a promising batsman with a solid domestic record.

The West Indies, after a close T20I series defeat, will seek redemption in the ODIs. Despite moments of brilliance in the T20I matches, they struggled with consistency. They will need to improve their overall game to pose a challenge in the 50-over format.
