The Rajasthan Royals (RR) kicked off their IPL 2024 campaign with a convincing 20-run victory over the new franchise, the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on Sunday, March 24.

Set a challenging target of 194 runs, LSG faced a determined RR bowling attack. Despite a valiant effort spearheaded by their skipper KL Rahul and vice-captain Nicholas Pooran, who smashed impressive half-centuries, LSG fell short of the target.
LSG’s chase got off to a shaky start, losing three crucial wickets within the first four overs. However, Rahul (58 runs) and Pooran (64 runs not out) provided a much-needed fightback with their solid knocks, reviving their team’s hopes of victory. Unfortunately, the Rajasthan Royals’ bowlers displayed exceptional skill in the death overs, effectively restricting LSG’s run-scoring opportunities and ultimately sealing the win for their side.
KL Rahul, in a post-match interview, acknowledged the loss but emphasized that it’s just the first game of the season. He commended his team’s fighting spirit despite the early setbacks, underlining the importance of a strong start during the crucial powerplay overs. Rahul also praised the contributions of young bowlers Mohsin Khan and Naveen-ul-Haq, acknowledging their positive impact on the team’s performance.
Speaking about the influence of LSG’s new head coach, Justin Langer, Rahul spoke highly of the calmness and experience Langer has brought to the team. He specifically credited Langer’s successful coaching tenure with the Australian national team, which included a T20 World Cup win and an Ashes series victory.
Looking ahead, both teams will be dissecting their performances and strategizing for their upcoming encounters. The cricketing world will be eagerly anticipating how LSG will bounce back from this opening-match defeat and how RR will build upon their winning momentum.
