On Thursday, October 14, Thiruvananthapuram MP Shashi Tharoor shared photos on Twitter from his meeting with Indian cricket star Sanju Samson, who returned home after scoring his maiden T20I century. Samson achieved this milestone during the third T20I against Bangladesh, smashing a remarkable forty-ball century, marking the second-fastest hundred for India in T20 cricket.

Upon his return, Samson received a hero’s welcome from Shashi Tharoor, who honored him with a traditional shawl. Tharoor expressed his delight on Twitter, saying, “Delighted to give a hero’s welcome to ‘ton-up Sanju’ as @IamSanjuSamson returned to Thiruvananthapuram after his stunning century versus Bangladesh. I found a ‘ponnada’ in the appropriate Indian colors to honor him!”
Earlier, Shashi Tharoor had expressed disappointment over missing the live broadcast of Samson’s century due to his official duties. He tweeted, “My great misfortune that I was running around the constituency while @IamSanjuSamson was hitting his spectacular century. I wish I could have seen it live! I always knew he could do it, and I am bursting with pride at his amazing performance.”
Gautam Gambhir also supported Samson, emphasizing the need for more opportunities for him in the squad. When the team for the Bangladesh series was announced, only two openers were named, ensuring Samson would play all three matches. In the series, he scored 150 runs in three games, averaging 50, demonstrating his talent and potential.
