Speculation Arises Over KL Rahul’s Future as Lucknow Super Giants Captain

With the Lucknow Super Giants facing slim chances of making it to the IPL playoffs, questions loom over KL Rahul’s continuation as the team’s captain for the remaining two games after a disappointing performance against Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Rahul, who was signed for a record Rs 17 crore before the 2022 auction. Is unlikely to be retained before the mega auctions in 2025. However, there are rumors circulating that he may voluntarily step down from the captaincy to focus solely on his batting in the upcoming matches.

While no official decision has been made yet, it’s speculated that if Rahul opts to prioritize his batting, the management would be open to the idea. Concerns over Rahul’s form, particularly his performance in the Powerplay overs, have raised doubts about his leadership.

Videos of LSG owner Sanjiv Goenka’s animated conversation with Rahul surfaced on social media following team’s defeat to Sunrisers Hyderabad. Where the opposition’s openers chased down the target of 167 runs in less than 10 overs.

Rahul’s own batting struggles, coupled with a strike rate of 136.09, have contributed to LSG’s underwhelming campaign in the league. While he has amassed 460 runs in 12 games. His inability to accelerate in the crucial early overs has been a significant setback for the team.

Despite the mathematical possibility of reaching 16 points by winning their remaining matches against Delhi Capitals and Mumbai Indians. LSG’s chances of advancing to the playoffs are slim due to their unfavorable net run rate (-0.760).

Should Rahul decide to step down, vice-captain Nicholas Pooran, who has been one of the team’s standout performers. Is expected to assume the leadership role for the remaining fixtures.
