In preparation for their one-off Test match against Australia at Perth’s iconic WACA ground on February 15, South Africa has announced a squad filled with new talents and returning players. Six uncapped players have earned their spots in the 14-member squad, while seasoned player Chloe Tryon makes a comeback after missing the last Test encounter against England in June 2022. The fresh faces in the squad include Tazmin Brits, Masabata Klaas, Ayanda Hlubi, Eliz-Mari Marx, Delmi Tucker, and Mieke de Ridder.
The core of the squad comprises players who featured in the previous Test, including Laura Wolvaardt, who now takes on the role of all-format captain, along with Anneke Bosch, Nadine de Klerk, Sune Luus, Sinalo Jafta, Nonkululeko Mlaba, and Marizanne Kapp, who displayed remarkable performances in the previous Test match.
All selected players are currently in Australia, having been part of the ongoing ODI series. However, Ayabonga Khaka, also part of the ODI squad, has opted out of participating in the red-ball cricket format, according to a statement from Cricket South Africa (CSA).

Expressing excitement about the upcoming challenge, head coach Hilton Moreeng stated, “It’s a great opportunity for us as a team. Test cricket is a rare but thrilling experience. Especially for our young players who are eager to showcase their skills in the longer format. Playing at such a historic venue adds to the excitement, and we are all looking forward to the opportunity.”
Clinton du Preez, the convenor of selectors, highlighted the strategic adjustments being made within the batting lineup for the Test match. He emphasized the importance of providing opportunities to players on the tour while assessing prospects for future Test matches. “Test cricket introduces a unique excitement, particularly for those new to the format. I’m eager to see how our squad members perform in the red-ball arena,” du Preez added.
