South Africa has unveiled a strong 15-member squad for the upcoming three-match ODI series against Pakistan, set to take place from December 17 to 22. The Proteas built momentum with a win in the opening T20I against Pakistan at Kingsmead and now aim to carry that form into the ODI series.
The squad sees the return of key players, including Kagiso Rabada, Heinrich Klaasen, David Miller, Keshav Maharaj, and Tabraiz Shamsi. Notably, Shamsi’s inclusion marks his return after stepping away from a national contract earlier this year. Temba Bavuma, fully recovered from injury, will lead the side as they prepare for challenging encounters in Paarl, Cape Town, and Johannesburg.
Injuries to several frontline pacers, including Anrich Nortje, Lungi Ngidi, Gerald Coetzee, Wiaan Mulder, and Nandre Burger, have opened the door for young talents. Kwena Maphaka, an 18-year-old fast bowler and the leading wicket-taker in the recent U-19 World Cup, aims to make his ODI debut. Maphaka’s inclusion is a step toward strengthening South Africa’s bowling options ahead of the 2025 Champions Trophy.
The experienced Rabada will spearhead the bowling attack, while spinners Maharaj and Shamsi provide crucial support. Additionally, all-rounders Marco Jansen and Andile Phehlukwayo bolster the team’s versatility. Furthermore, seam bowler Ottneil Baartman adds valuable depth to the pace department.
South Africa’s batting lineup is equally formidable, featuring Ryan Rickelton, Rassie van der Dussen, Aiden Markram, Tristan Stubbs, Miller, and Klaasen. With a blend of experience and emerging talent, the team aims to put up a strong performance against Pakistan.
