Speculation surrounding Rohit Sharma’s future with the Mumbai Indians (MI) reached a new high after he was spotted chatting with MI owners Nita Ambani and Akash Ambani following their final league game against the Lucknow Super Giants at the Wankhede Stadium on Saturday, May 18, 2024.
Many fans believe this season might be Rohit’s last with MI, especially after Hardik Pandya unexpectedly replaced him as captain before IPL 2024. Rohit, who led MI to five IPL titles, lost his position after three trophyless seasons. However, under Hardik’s captaincy, MI’s performance worsened, securing only four wins out of 14 games and finishing at the bottom of the 10-team standings.
Despite the team’s struggles, Rohit seemed in good spirits while speaking with the Ambanis after the match. Given his significant stature, it is hard to imagine the Ambanis letting go of Rohit entirely in the coming years.

Meanwhile, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) owner Sanjiv Goenka interacted with LSG players after the game, providing a contrast to his earlier controversial interaction with Captain K L Rahul. Following LSG’s heavy defeat to Sunrisers Hyderabad, a video showing Goenka in an animated discussion with a subdued Rahul went viral, drawing criticism.
LSG finished the season in seventh place, winning seven out of 14 games. They missed the playoffs for the first time in three years due to net run rate.
The conversations between owners and players after matches indicate the high stakes and emotional investments involved in the IPL, with each interaction scrutinized for potential implications on future team dynamics.
