India’s star batter Shreyas Iyer will represent Mumbai in the upcoming Buchi Babu tournament, marking his return to domestic cricket. Iyer will join forces with Suryakumar Yadav and is set to play in the match against Jammu & Kashmir on August 27 in Coimbatore. This tournament is crucial for Iyer as he looks to solidify his position in India’s Test squad ahead of important matches in September. Having missed out on a central contract with the BCCI, Iyer will be eager to impress under the leadership of Gautam Gambhir.

According to Mumbai Cricket Association’s joint secretary, Deepak Patil, “Shreyas Iyer will play for Mumbai in the Buchi Babu Invitational tournament organized by the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association. He will be playing against Jammu & Kashmir from 27th August at Coimbatore.”
Along with Iyer, out-of-favor wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan will also return to domestic cricket, leading Jharkhand in the Buchi Babu tournament. Suryakumar Yadav, another key player, will feature for Mumbai under the captaincy of Sarfaraz Khan.
There are also reports suggesting that the BCCI is encouraging top Indian players to participate in domestic tournaments. This could potentially see stars like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma returning to the domestic circuit, possibly in the Duleep Trophy.
