Playing at SuperSport Park in Centurion, Tilak Varma showed his class by taking the South African bowlers to task. His knock included 8 boundaries and 7 sixes, forming a solid 107-run partnership with Abhishek Sharma for the second wicket. This partnership laid the foundation for a strong total, helping India set the tone for their victory. Tilak’s stunning innings earned him the Player of the Match award.
In addition to his match-winning knock, Tilak broke several significant records during his innings. He became the 12th Indian batter to score a T20I century, joining an elite list that includes names like Virat Kohli, Suresh Raina, and Rohit Sharma. At 22 years and 5 days old, Tilak became the second youngest Indian to score a T20I ton, following Yashasvi Jaiswal. His 107 not out also made him the Indian player with the highest individual score against South Africa, surpassing Sanju Samson, who had scored 107 earlier in the series.
Tilak became the fifth Indian player to score a T20I century against the Proteas, joining the ranks of Suryakumar Yadav, Rohit Sharma, Raina, and Samson. Moreover, this remarkable performance has further solidified his place as one of India’s most promising young talents in T20I cricket, highlighting his growing impact in the format.
