In a recent development, Shakib Al Hasan has confirmed his availability for Bangladesh’s remaining Test matches in 2024, especially given the recent political turmoil in the country. With the political changes following Sheikh Hasina’s resignation and the dissolution of parliament, there were concerns about Shakib’s participation in upcoming international fixtures, particularly the two-Test series against Pakistan.

According to reports from Daily Star, Bangladesh’s chief selector Gazi Ashraf Hossain Lipu clarified that Shakib Al Hasan will be available for all eight remaining Tests this year, including those against Pakistan, India, South Africa, and the West Indies. “We have eight Tests scheduled this year, which will conclude in the West Indies in December. He [Shakib] will be available for all of them,” Lipu told the media in Mirpur today. Additionally, Lipu emphasized that Shakib’s participation will be crucial for the team’s performance throughout the series.
This confirmation puts to rest the speculations fueled by the uncertain political landscape and Shakib’s previous involvement in the ruling Awami League party. His presence will be crucial as the Bangladesh cricket team faces a tough schedule in the coming months, with red-ball assignments that will test their strength and resilience on the global stage. The Bangladesh Test squad will depart for Pakistan this afternoon.
Bangladesh will begin their two-Test series on 21 August at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium. Following that, they will play the second Test on 30 August at the National Stadium in Karachi.
