Shaheen Afridi Clears Air on Pakistan Team’s Unity Amidst Captaincy Changes

Shaheen Shah Afridi, the Pakistani fast bowler, has vehemently denied any discord or disharmony within the national squad regarding leadership changes.

Following the reinstatement of Babar Azam as captain, replacing Shaheen who had led the team in a single series before his removal, Afridi addressed concerns of unity within the team during a PCB podcast.

Afridi emphasized the importance of unity in achieving success in major events, acknowledging that while minor disagreements are inevitable in any team, they should not be blown out of proportion.

He stated, “Sometimes, small disagreements happen in every family, even among brothers. But there’s nothing like that in our team,” affirming the team’s commitment to listening to each other and focusing on their collective goal of bringing joy to the nation through cricket.

Afridi stressed the need for players to maintain unity, focus, and intent while avoiding internal conflicts that could hinder their performance, emphasizing that now is the time for unity rather than arguments or disputes.

Looking ahead to the T20 World Cup, where Pakistan will commence their campaign against the USA on June 6, Afridi expressed confidence in his form, fitness, and workload management. He highlighted his satisfaction with his bowling performances in Ireland and the team’s resilience in bouncing back to win the series after an initial setback.

Acknowledging the challenges faced by bowlers in modern T20 cricket, Afridi remained optimistic about his rhythm and pace, underscoring the dynamic nature of the game where every bowler encounters occasional off days.

Afridi’s remarks provide assurance regarding the team’s unity and his own readiness for the upcoming T20 World Cup, instilling confidence among fans and stakeholders alike.
