Nortje Takes Down Rashid Khan After Argument, Afghanistan Collapses for 56 in Semifinals

In the 2024 T20 World Cup semifinal at Trinidad’s Brian Lara Stadium, South Africa’s pace attack dominated Afghanistan. Captain Rashid Khan showed brief resistance, hitting a couple of boundaries before Anrich Nortje bowled him out in the 11th over. Afghanistan struggled, eventually collapsing for a low score under pressure from South Africa’s aggressive bowling.

Rashid came in to bat at number eight with Afghanistan struggling at 28-6 after Azmatullah Omarzai’s dismissal. Nortje greeted him with some fiery deliveries and exchanged heated words. Rashid managed to hit two boundaries, bringing Afghanistan close to the 50-run mark, but eventually lost his off-stump to Nortje, reducing the team to 50-9.

Afghanistan, having chosen to bat first, was eventually bowled out for a mere 56 runs in 11.5 overs. South Africa’s Marco Jansen claimed three wickets in the powerplay, while Kagiso Rabada and Anrich Nortje took two each. Spinner Tabraiz Shamsi finished off the tail, ending with figures of 3-6 from 1.5 overs.
