BCB Director Khaled Mahmud Resigns Due to Political Turmoil

In a recent move, former Bangladesh captain Khaled Mahmud has resigned from his position as Director of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). Mahmud, 41, served as an elected member for three consecutive terms, starting with his first election in 2013. He resigned before completing his current term, which was due to end in 2023. His resignation comes amid political changes in the country, following former BCB president Nazmul Hassan’s exit, according to Cricbuzz.

During his time at the BCB, Mahmud played a key role in the growth of Bangladesh cricket. As chairman of the game development committee, he oversaw the Bangladesh Under-19 team’s victory at the 2020 ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup. He also served as an interim head coach and team manager for the national team, contributing in various capacities to the sport’s administration and progress.

Mahmud’s departure is part of a broader shake-up within the BCB, with other directors such as Jalal Yunus, Shafiul Alam Chowdhury, and Naimur Rahman also resigning.

The much-anticipated Test series between India and Bangladesh is set to start on September 19. Bangladesh enters the series with confidence after defeating Pakistan recently. However, they face a tough challenge against India, who have not lost a home Test series since 2012. Under Rohit Sharma’s leadership, India will aim to maintain their strong record and edge closer to securing a spot in the World Test Championship (WTC) final, scheduled for June 2025 at Lord’s.
