Punjab Kings (PBKS) allrounder Glenn Maxwell has been fined 25% of his match fee and handed one demerit point for violating the IPL’s code of conduct during Tuesday night’s match against Chennai Super Kings (CSK).
While the IPL did not reveal specific details of the incident, an official statement confirmed that Maxwell admitted to a Level 1 offence under Article 2.2, which refers to the abuse of fixtures and fittings during a match. He accepted the match referee’s sanction without contest.
Maxwell, who came in to bat at No. 6 after PBKS chose to bat first, was dismissed for a second-ball duck by R Ashwin, caught and bowled. Despite Maxwell’s failure with the bat, PBKS posted a commanding 219 for 6, thanks to a blistering 103 off 42 balls from Priyansh Arya. Shashank Singh (52* off 35) and Marco Jansen (34* off 19) also made valuable contributions.
Maxwell made up for his brief batting stint by taking the first wicket of CSK’s innings, dismissing Rachin Ravindra, who was stumped by Prabhsimran Singh. PBKS eventually won the match by 18 runs, handing CSK their fourth consecutive defeat in IPL 2025.
The Australian allrounder has had a modest season so far. He began with a golden duck against Gujarat Titans, followed by a 30-run knock against Rajasthan Royals. With three wickets to his name in four matches, Maxwell has yet to fully hit his stride this season.
PBKS, currently enjoying a good run with three wins in four games, will travel to Hyderabad for their next fixture against Sunrisers Hyderabad on Saturday.
