Earlier today at Eden Gardens, Punjab Kings (PBKS) etched their name in history books by completing a monumental chase of 262 runs against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). Captain Sam Curran, still absorbing the magnitude of the achievement, struggled to find words to describe his team’s remarkable performance.

Jonny Bairstow’s scintillating century and Shashank Singh’s explosive 68 off just 28 balls fueled PBKS’s jaw-dropping chase, propelling them to the highest ever successful chase in T20 cricket.
In a post-match interview, Curran likened PBKS‘ batting display to “baseball hitting,” acknowledging the sheer dominance displayed by his team. Despite the unprecedented nature of the feat, Curran maintained his focus on securing the crucial two points.
“Phew! Very pleasing win. It was baseball hitting out there. Delighted to get the two points; we hung in there and deserved the win,” Curran remarked, struggling to encapsulate the enormity of the victory.
While acknowledging the prevalent belief that T20 cricket heavily favors batters, Curran expressed surprise at how extensively records have shattered this season. He credited the confidence of the batters, along with the support from coaches and the conducive playing conditions, for the remarkable performances witnessed.
Even though chasing a huge target was tough, Curran praised Bairstow and Shashank for their determination and courage. He highlighted their role in the team’s success and admired their excellent performances under pressure.
With this victory, PBKS climbed to the eighth position in the points table, securing six points from eight games. While the playoff race remains challenging, this exhilarating win serves as a significant morale boost for PBKS as they strive to climb higher in the standings.
