Rohan Jaitley has emerged as the leading candidate to replace Jay Shah as the next Secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Reports indicate that Shah will step down in November to take on his role as the Chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC), a position he won unopposed in August. He will officially take over as ICC Chairman on December 1.
According to India Today, Rohan Jaitley is likely to compete against Anil Patel, Secretary of the Gujarat Cricket Association, for the BCCI Secretary position. Notably, there will not be a Special General Meeting (SGM) to discuss Shah’s replacement, which further solidifies Jaitley’s status as the frontrunner.
Rohan Jaitley began his journey in cricket administration about four years ago when he was elected President of the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA), a role his father held for 14 years. During his tenure, Jaitley has implemented significant reforms and improvements within the DDCA. He successfully managed the hosting of five ODI World Cup matches at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi in 2023 and launched the inaugural edition of the Delhi Premier League (DPL).
Meanwhile, Jay Shah, the current BCCI Secretary, will continue in his role until the end of November. Since taking office in 2019, he has played a pivotal role in the BCCI’s operations, particularly during the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. Shah has no plans to resign before his term ends, ensuring a smooth transition to his successor.
