Reports: Rohit Sharma to join Indian team during the first Test in Perth

Reports from Cricbuzz confirm that Rohit Sharma, India’s regular Test captain, will join the team in Perth on November 24. He had missed the start of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy due to the birth of his second child. Rohit is set to travel to Australia in the coming days and is expected to join the squad on the third day of the first Test, which begins on November 22 at Optus Stadium. Jasprit Bumrah is leading the Indian side in Rohit’s absence for the opening Test.

Rohit’s return provides a significant boost for India as they aim to bounce back from their recent series loss to New Zealand, where they suffered a whitewash on home soil. The defeat has added pressure on the Indian team, especially with qualification for the World Test Championship (WTC) final on the line. Rohit will lead the team in the second Test, a pink-ball match in Adelaide starting on December 6.

India might also be without Shubman Gill for the first Test, as the opener injured his finger during practice. In his place, KL Rahul is likely to open with Devdutt Paddikkal batting at No. 3. Meanwhile, the Australian team has no injury concerns and is eager to begin the series with a strong performance on the pace-friendly pitch at Optus Stadium.
