Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) have orchestrated a remarkable turnaround in their IPL campaign, surging back into playoff contention after a challenging start to the season. Captain Faf du Plessis attributes their revival to a more assertive approach adopted in recent matches.
Despite facing adversity early on, with seven losses in their first eight matches, RCB embarked on an impressive streak of five consecutive victories. Their latest triumph, a commanding 47-run win over Delhi Capitals, propelled them to fifth place in the standings with 12 points, edging past Delhi and Lucknow on net run rate.
In a crucial match to keep their top-four aspirations alive, RCB overcame the early setbacks of Du Plessis and leading run-scorer Virat Kohli. However, Will Jacks’ quickfire 41 off 29 balls and Rajat Patidar’s aggressive 52 off 32 balls powered them to a competitive total of 187/9. These contributions proved pivotal in RCB’s quest for victory, showcasing their depth and resilience under pressure.
RCB’s bowlers then delivered a clinical performance, dismantling Delhi Capitals for 140 runs in 19.1 overs, with pacer Yash Dayal leading the charge with three key wickets.
Du Plessis emphasized the team’s commitment to playing bold cricket, a mantra ingrained in RCB’s ethos. He expressed pride in their ability to execute their game plan effectively and credited their newfound confidence for their resurgence.

“Our focus has been on playing fearless cricket – RCB advocates for boldness,” said Du Plessis. “I’m pleased that we’ve been able to embody that spirit and translate it into performances on the field.”
RCB’s recent success has been marked by a positive shift in their approach. Despite the challenges faced earlier in the season, the team remained united and maintained a constructive mindset throughout. Dayal highlighted the team’s unwavering positivity and emphasized their transition towards a more aggressive style of play.
“We’ve witnessed a notable change in our mindset. Even during our losses, there was a collective resolve to stay positive,” Dayal explained. “We’ve embraced a more attacking mentality, and it has yielded results.”
Having demonstrated their resilience and adaptability, RCB now gear up to face Chennai Super Kings, currently placed third in the standings, in their upcoming fixture on Saturday. Additionally, this match presents a crucial opportunity for RCB to further solidify their position in the league and maintain momentum as they progress through the season.
