Afghanistan’s T20I captain, Rashid Khan, prepares to make his comeback in the upcoming three-match T20I series against Ireland. He underwent back surgery following the ODI World Cup 2023 and opted out of the Big Bash League 2023-24 and SA20 2024 for recovery.

Ibrahim Zadran led Afghanistan’s T20I side in Rashid’s absence, facing UAE, India, and Sri Lanka. Rashid is anticipated to make a comeback, having devoted significant time to rehabilitation and rigorous training in preparation for the upcoming series against Ireland. His dedication underscores his determination to perform at his best and contribute positively to the team’s success on the field.
In a recent interview, Rashid disclosed his journey through recovery, revealing that doctors had advised surgery before the ODI World Cup 2023, a decision he postponed to participate in the crucial tournament. Now, he eagerly anticipates donning the national jersey again and contributing to his country’s success.
Looking ahead, Rashid sees the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 as an ideal platform to prepare for the T20 World Cup 2024. Representing Gujarat Titans, he aims to replicate his stellar performance from IPL 2023, where he excelled both with bat and ball, finishing as the joint second-highest wicket-taker and showcasing his batting prowess.
With Rashid’s return to the field and his IPL stint on the horizon, Afghanistan hopes to benefit from his valuable contributions as they gear up for the T20 World Cup later this year.
