Despite not informing the franchise about ongoing criminal proceedings, Nikhil Chaudhary, acquitted of rape charges, is likely to make a return to the Hobart Hurricanes.
In March, Chaudhary was declared not guilty by a jury regarding allegations of raping a 20-year-old woman in a car in Townsville back in 2021. Cricket Tasmania expressed unawareness of the charge or legal actions taken.
Chaudhary, who joined the Hurricanes in late 2023, had his contract extended to 2027 in February, preceding the trial.
Salliann Beams, Cricket Tasmania’s high-performance general manager, addressed reporters, indicating that internal procedures regarding Chaudhary were still ongoing. Despite the circumstances, she suggested that he would likely participate in the upcoming season.

Beams emphasized that while nothing legally transpired, the lack of disclosure concerning the charges or legal proceedings was disappointing.
She further explained the complexity of balancing the organization’s perspective and understanding the players’ situation, acknowledging the legal advice they receive during such situations.
Despite the challenges, Beams expressed pride in how Cricket Tasmania managed the scenario, ensuring optimal support for everyone involved.
Chaudhary played nine matches for the Hurricanes, demonstrating solid performance with both bat and ball, despite the team missing out on the finals.
