New Zealand dominated day two of the first Test against India at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, bowling out the hosts for a mere 46 runs, India’s lowest score at home and third-lowest overall. New Zealand, who lost the toss and were forced to bowl first, capitalized on overcast conditions. The seamers, led by Matt Henry’s remarkable 5 for 15, dismantled India’s batting lineup. Will O’Rourke also played a key role, picking up 4 for 22.

Henry’s performance was historic as he not only completed a five-wicket haul but also reached his 100th Test wicket, becoming the joint-second fastest New Zealand bowler to achieve this feat in 26 matches. India’s decision to bat first, despite the overcast skies and covered pitch, backfired as their batsmen struggled to handle the movement generated by the New Zealand seamers. A combination of poor shot selection and relentless bowling saw India collapse without a single boundary until they were 13 for 3.
After lunch, India’s fortunes did not improve as Henry and O’Rourke continued their onslaught, reducing the team to 46 all out. Pant’s 20 was the highest contribution. In reply, New Zealand quickly took control with their batsmen playing more freely under sunnier conditions. By tea, they had reached 82 for 1, with Devon Conway (61*) leading the charge, giving the visitors a 36-run lead with nine wickets still in hand.
The match looks firmly in New Zealand’s grasp as India faces an uphill battle.
