Members of the T20 World Cup 2024-winning Indian team recently gathered at the Maharashtra Vidhan Sabha in Mumbai, following their victory parade from Nariman Point to Wankhede Stadium. Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis, and other officials welcomed Captain Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, Shivam Dube, and Yashasvi Jaiswal. During the felicitation, Deputy CM Fadnavis proposed the idea of constructing a state-of-the-art cricket stadium with a seating capacity exceeding one lakh, one of the largest in India.

According to a recent report from The Times of India, the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has applied for an open tender from the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) for a 50-acre land in Amane village, Thane district. Plans for the stadium, including approval from the state government, are underway.
“The MCA aims to build a sprawling 1 lakh capacity cricket stadium on 50 acres of land in Amane, 26 km from Thane and 68 km from Wankhede Stadium,” the report stated.
The initiative was reportedly a dream project of late MCA President Amol Kale, who passed away in June. Moreover, the stadium is envisioned to include two grounds for first-class matches and modern amenities.
Currently, Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium and Navi Mumbai’s Dr. D.Y. Patil Sports Academy are major venues under MCA for international fixtures. Additionally, other grounds like BKC Ground and Deccan Gymkhana Ground host international matches sporadically.
