Melbourne Renegades stalwart Shaun Marsh, at 40, announces retirement, with his final match scheduled against the Thunder in the ongoing Big Bash League.
Melbourne Renegades’ seasoned campaigner, Shaun Marsh, has officially declared his retirement from professional cricket. The Renegades organization confirmed that the upcoming Big Bash League (BBL) clash against the Thunder at Sydney Showground would mark the 40-year-old’s farewell match for the club.
Expressing his sentiments, Marsh stated, “I have loved playing for the Renegades. I’ve met some great people over the last five years, and the friendships I’ve made will last a lifetime.”
Acknowledging the support he received from teammates, fans, and the Renegades’ management. Marsh expressed gratitude for the camaraderie within the playing group. He highlighted the special nature of the team and the incredible support from members and fans.
With Aaron Finch, another Renegades player and World Cup champion, recently retiring, the Renegades bid farewell to two prominent figures. Marsh, who made his Sheffield Shield debut for Western Australia in 2001, holds an impressive cricketing record. Featuring in 38 Tests, 73 ODIs, and 15 T20Is for Australia after his international debut in 2008.
Renegades coach David Saker praised Marsh’s contributions, emphasizing his universal popularity and admiration among players. Saker commended Marsh’s power-hitting abilities and strategic acumen, making him a valuable asset in T20 cricket.
Shaun Marsh currently ranks as the sixth-highest run-scorer in BBL history, amassing 2810 runs at an average of 40.72, with 27 fifties to his name. While the Renegades have already been eliminated from the ongoing BBL tournament. Marsh’s farewell match against the Thunder will be a significant moment in his illustrious cricketing career.
