India launched their Asia Cup campaign with a dominant nine-wicket victory over UAE, finishing the game in just 17.4 overs. It took only 79 balls to bowl out UAE for 57, their lowest T20I total against India, and another 27 balls to chase it down.

UAE Collapse After Bright Start
Put in to bat, UAE began aggressively, reaching 41 for 2 in the powerplay. Captain Muhammad Waseem and Alishan Sharafu struck boundaries early, including six fours and a six. Jasprit Bumrah, bowling three overs inside the powerplay for the first time since 2019, dismissed Sharafu with a yorker but also leaked runs.
The momentum vanished quickly. UAE’s last eight wickets fell for just ten runs as India’s bowlers struck relentlessly.
Kuldeep’s Magic and Dube’s Breakthroughs
Kuldeep Yadav, returning after warming the bench during India’s England tour, proved unplayable. In the ninth over alone, he dismissed Rahul Chopra, Waseem, and Harshit Kaushik, using variations and accuracy to rip through the batting order. He finished with 4 for 7.
Shivam Dube, chosen for his batting depth at No. 8, further justified his spot with 3 for 4. He continued his strong bowling form, making it five wickets in his last two T20Is. UAE’s attempts to counterattack only led to rash dismissals against India’s spinners and medium-pace.
New Opening Pair Sets the Tone
India’s chase was led by the new opening partnership of long-time friends Abhishek Sharma and Shubman Gill. They added 48 runs in just 3.4 overs, playing eye-catching strokes, including Gill’s flicked six and Abhishek’s fearless slap over long-off.
Abhishek fell for 30, but by then, victory was certain. Captain Suryakumar Yadav joined Gill and finished the chase in style, sealing India’s quickest T20I win.
Selection Calls Pay Off
India’s playing XI sparked pre-match debate, particularly over wicketkeeping, bowling balance, and batting depth. Sanju Samson retained the gloves, while both wristspinners played. With Bumrah as the only specialist quick, India relied on variety – a plan that worked perfectly.
The win underlined India’s depth and ruthlessness, sending a strong message to rivals early in the tournament.
