In anticipation of their fiery IPL 2024 clash at Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, perennial rivals Virat Kohli and Pat Cummins engaged in a delightful conversation during a pre-match training session.
The exchange between the two cricketing stalwarts, who recently had a blockbuster showdown at the 2023 World Cup final last November, mirrored their rich and extensive rivalry, particularly in international cricket. Cummins, the captain of Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), approached Kohli, the opener for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and the active Orange Cap holder, initiating a light-hearted conversation about his batting drill.
Cummins boasted about his recent batting performance, to which Kohli responded with admiration, acknowledging Cummins’ prowess with a compliment: “You’re too good, Pat.”
Their rivalry extends back to the final of the 2023 World Cup, where Cummins, representing Australia, made a pivotal breakthrough by dismissing Kohli for 54 runs. Australia went on to win the match under Cummins’ leadership, clinching their sixth World Cup title.
Their IPL rivalry continued in the IPL 2024 season, notably in a high-scoring thriller in Bengaluru on April 15. In that encounter, Cummins led SRH to a 25-run victory over RCB.
At present, SRH is third on the IPL 2024 points table, winning five out of seven matches. Meanwhile, RCB is last, losing six consecutive games.
