England achieved a historic victory over Pakistan, winning by an innings and 47 runs in Multan, despite Pakistan scoring 556 runs in their first innings. This defeat marks a first in Test history, as Pakistan became the first team to lose by an innings after scoring over 500 runs in their initial batting effort.

Starting day five at 152 for 6, Pakistan showed some resilience through Salman Agha and Aamer Jamal, who managed to put on a 109-run partnership for the seventh wicket. However, England’s dominance, reflected in their monumental first innings total of 823 for 7 declared, proved too much for Pakistan. Jack Leach starred with the ball for England, taking 4 wickets for 30 runs, leading to Pakistan’s collapse from 82 for 6 in their second innings.
Salman scored 63 runs, while Jamal added 55 not out, but their efforts came too late to change the outcome. Leach initiated the rout early by dismissing Salman lbw and quickly followed up with two more wickets, sealing the match before lunch.
This loss extended Pakistan’s streak of defeats under captain Shan Masood to six matches, deepening their struggles at home, where they haven’t won since February 2021. The absence of hospitalised leg-spinner Abrar Ahmed further compounded their challenges.
This match not only highlights England’s formidable batting but also marks a significant milestone in Test cricket history, showcasing the shift in dominance in the format.
