Jos Buttler, England’s white-ball captain, will miss the T20 International (T20I) series against Australia due to a recurring calf injury. This latest setback continues a frustrating summer for Buttler, who is struggling to recover in time for the three-match series beginning on September 11, 2024, at the Utilita Bowl in Southampton.

In Buttler’s absence, Phil Salt, who has captained the Manchester Originals in The Hundred, will lead England for the T20Is.
Buttler’s injury could also affect his participation in the crucial five-match One Day International (ODI) series against Australia starting on September 19 at Trent Bridge. To mitigate further injury concerns, Essex batter Jordan Cox joins the ODI squad.
The calf injury, sustained in July during preparations for The Hundred, already sidelined Buttler from the tournament, impacting Manchester Originals’ campaign.
To strengthen the squad, Surrey all-rounder Jamie Overton has been called up as a replacement for Buttler in the T20I series. Buttler’s absence, known for his explosive batting and leadership, poses a significant challenge for England as they face a formidable Australian side.
The updated England T20I squad is as follows: Phil Salt (Captain), Jofra Archer, Jacob Bethell, Brydon Carse, Jordan Cox, Sam Curran, Josh Hull, Will Jacks, Liam Livingstone, Saqib Mahmood, Dan Mousley, Jamie Overton, Adil Rashid, Reece Topley, and John Turner.
