Virat Kohli may face serious consequences following an on-field incident with Australian opener Sam Konstas during the Boxing Day Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. The Border-Gavaskar Trophy stands at 1-1, with India and Australia fighting for an unassailable lead.
The controversy arose when Virat Kohli, frustrated by Konstas’ audacious batting, had a heated exchange with the young Australian. As the over ended, Kohli charged toward the non-striker’s end, shouldering Konstas as they crossed paths. The situation quickly escalated, with Usman Khawaja and the umpires intervening to calm things down. However, Kohli’s aggressive collision with Konstas has put him under scrutiny.
Virat Kohli could face charges under Article 2.12 of the ICC Code of Conduct, which covers “inappropriate physical contact” with any player, support personnel, umpire, or spectator during an international match. If found guilty, the match referee, Andy Pycroft, might impose a penalty. While it’s unlikely Kohli will face a ban for the final Test at the Sydney Cricket Ground, a significant deduction from his match fees is a possible outcome.
