The election for the next chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC) is expected to take place in November this year. Current chairman Greg Barclay, who has served for four years, is eligible for another term. However, there are speculations that BCCI secretary Jay Shah might run for the position. If Jay Shah decides to contest and wins, he will become the youngest chairman in ICC history.

The ICC’s annual conference in Colombo later this month may formalize the election timeline. Shah has not publicly commented on his intentions. Reports suggest he aims to reform the ICC. He wants changes after the recent T20 World Cup controversy co-hosted by the USA and Caribbean islands.
A report by Cricbuzz reveals that the ICC has amended the chairman’s tenure to three years, with the possibility of only one re-election, unlike the previous two-term limit. Shah has been involved in cricket administration since 2009 and became BCCI secretary in 2019. He has initiated several significant projects, including the Women’s Premier League and ensuring equal pay for women cricketers.
Sunil Gavaskar recently praised Shah’s contributions to Indian cricket, highlighting his efforts to enhance the sport’s growth and development. Despite some criticisms linked to his father’s political background, Shah’s achievements in cricket administration have been noteworthy.
