South Africa have revealed their squad for the upcoming tri-nation series in Pakistan, where they will face the hosts and New Zealand. The tournament kicks off on February 10 in Lahore, with South Africa playing their first match against New Zealand.
A key highlight of the squad announcement is the return of fast bowler Gerald Coetzee. He makes his comeback after recovering from a left hamstring strain sustained during the Test series against Sri Lanka. His presence will add strength to South Africa’s pace attack.
For now, the Proteas have named a 12-player squad for their opening match, with several key players still busy in the SA20 league. Head coach Rob Walter has included ODI captain Temba Bavuma, who will lead the side. The full squad will be finalized after the SA20 Eliminator match on February 5. Keshav Maharaj and Heinrich Klaasen will be available from the second ODI onwards.
Six Uncapped Players Included
South Africa have introduced six uncapped players in the squad. These include batters Matthew Breetzke and Meeka-eel Prince, pacers Gideon Peters and Eathan Bosch, spinner Senuran Muthusamy, and all-rounder Mihlali Mpongwana. Mpongwana previously featured in South Africa’s ODI squad against India in 2023.
The tri-series serves as the final preparation for all three teams ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy, which begins on February 19. South Africa have a tough challenge in the tournament as they compete in Group B with Afghanistan, Australia, and England.
