In match number 40 of the 2024 T20 World Cup at St. Lucia, West Indies batter Nicholas Pooran delivered an explosive performance against Afghanistan seamer Azmatullah Omarzai. In the fourth over, Pooran smashed three sixes and two boundaries in just six legal deliveries.

West Indies benefited further from a boundary off a no-ball, five wides, and four leg byes, extracting 36 runs in the over to reach 73-1 by the end of four overs.
Pooran’s powerful hitting equaled Yuvraj Singh’s record
Batting at number three after the dismissal of opener Brandon King, Nicholas Pooran blasted three massive sixes and two boundaries off Azmatullah Omarzai inside the powerplay. The over also included four byes, five wides, and a boundary off a no-ball, allowing West Indies to score 36 runs in one over, matching Yuvraj Singh’s record for the most expensive over in T20 World Cup history.
In 2007, Yuvraj Singh famously hit England’s Stuart Broad for six sixes in an over during the inaugural T20 World Cup.
Interestingly, before Pooran’s explosive over, he had a brief chat with his LSG teammate and Afghanistan fast bowler Naveen-ul-Haq while walking to the crease.
Due to Pooran’s aggressive batting, West Indies raced to 92 runs in the powerplay against Afghanistan’s new-ball attack. By the halfway mark, the hosts were 113-2, with Pooran contributing 44* runs off just 23 balls.
