Vikram Rathour, former India batting coach, has joined Rajasthan Royals as their new batting coach, reuniting with Rahul Dravid, who was recently named RR head coach. Rathour and Dravid previously worked together with the Indian national team, where Rathour served as batting coach alongside Ravi Shastri and later Dravid during a five-year stint. His contract with India ended in June, following their T20 World Cup triumph in the Caribbean.

Dravid expressed excitement about Rathour’s appointment, highlighting his technical expertise and deep understanding of Indian conditions. “Having worked closely with Vikram for many years, I can confidently say his calm demeanor and ability to nurture young talent make him a perfect fit for the Royals,” Dravid said. He also noted their successful partnership in guiding India to key victories.
This will be Rathour’s second stint in the IPL, having previously been part of Punjab Kings’ coaching staff. Additionally, he served as director of cricket for Himachal Pradesh. Earlier this month, Rathour worked with New Zealand as a batting consultant in Greater Noida, preparing them for six upcoming Tests in Asia.
Rathour is excited about the opportunity to reunite with Dravid and work with a talented group of young cricketers. He aims to contribute to the team’s vision and help develop top-class players for both Rajasthan Royals and India. A prolific scorer for Punjab in domestic cricket, Rathour amassed 11,473 first-class runs but had a brief international career, featuring in six Tests and seven ODIs between 1996 and 1997.
