IPL 2025: SRH Reportedly Set to Release Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Two Overseas Players

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) are reportedly set to release key players before the IPL 2025 auction. This includes Indian pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar, according to SportsYaari’s exclusive report. SRH, IPL 2024 finalists, plan to release ex-captain Aiden Markram and star bowler Umran Malik.

IPL 2025: SRH Reportedly Set to Release Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Two Overseas Players

The decision is reportedly driven by the lack of impact from these players in recent seasons. While SRH had a successful 2024 season, reaching the finals with standout performances from players like Abhishek Sharma, Travis Head, and Pat Cummins, Markram and Malik struggled to secure spots in the playing XI. Markram, who led SRH until 2023, was replaced by Cummins in the following season. Umran Malik, once SRH’s top retention, has played just nine matches in the last two years.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar, a veteran bowler, has also faced challenges, taking just 11 wickets in 16 matches last season, his lowest tally since 2021. He also registered his worst economy rate in IPL 2024 since his debut. His struggles have continued, as he was recently left out of Uttar Pradesh’s squad for the Ranji Trophy.

Meanwhile, SRH are expected to retain key players like Pat Cummins, Abhishek Sharma, Travis Head, Heinrich Klaasen, and Nitish Reddy. However, Cummins’ participation in IPL 2025 is still uncertain as he has prioritized Test cricket. The final date for teams to submit their retention list is October 31, 2024.
