14-year-old Suryavanshi breaks records to keep RR in the tournament

In just his third IPL match, 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi delivered a breathtaking century to help Rajasthan Royals (RR) chase down 210 in just 15.5 overs—IPL’s fastest successful 200-plus run chase. His 101 off 38 balls rewrote the record books: youngest T20 centurion, second-fastest IPL hundred (35 balls), joint-most sixes by an Indian in an IPL innings (11), and highest boundary percentage in a T20 ton.

Suryavanshi’s fearless assault came against Gujarat Titans’ elite bowling attack, some of whom have been playing since before he was born. From launching Mohammed Siraj for six early on to dismantling Ishant Sharma and even dispatching a back-foot six off Prasidh Krishna’s slower delivery, his shot-making was jaw-dropping. His boundary spree continued with a 30-run over off debutant Karim Janat, bringing him to 94 off 34. He reached his hundred with a six off Rashid Khan—T20’s most iconic bowler.

Opening partner Yashasvi Jaiswal played a composed 70* off 40 balls, but admitted Suryavanshi stole the show. Together, they sealed the chase after three straight failed attempts by RR. The pair powered RR to 212 for 2, overhauling Gujarat Titans’ 209 for 4, which featured Shubman Gill’s 84 and Jos Buttler’s late fireworks.

Gujarat’s top order had continued its consistent form, but a brief slowdown in the middle overs allowed RR to keep the target within reach. Once Suryavanshi took over, there was no looking back. His sensational knock not only kept RR’s season alive but also marked the arrival of a prodigy the cricketing world won’t forget anytime soon.
