Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are feeling the pressure after losing five consecutive games for the first time in an IPL season. However, batting coach Mike Hussey made it clear that they are not giving up. After their heavy loss to Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at Chepauk, Hussey expressed the team’s disappointment but remained hopeful for a turnaround.
“This one hurts a lot,” Hussey said at the post-match press conference. “The players, support staff, and fans are all feeling the pain right now. However, we’re not giving up. In a long tournament like the IPL, momentum is key, and although we haven’t had it recently, we believe things can turn around fast.”
Hussey praised the leadership of coach Stephen Fleming and captain MS Dhoni, stressing their ability to bring the team together in challenging times. Despite CSK’s struggle to find a consistent playing XI, Hussey believes the team can bounce back, citing past experiences of players reviving their careers at CSK, such as Shane Watson and Ajinkya Rahane.
CSK have used 18 players so far this season, including all their overseas players, and are still searching for the right combination. In their most recent match, they posted their lowest IPL total at Chepauk, managing just 103/9. Hussey acknowledged the criticism the team has received but urged fans to continue their support, stating that the players are determined to turn things around.
On the subject of youth, Hussey emphasized that while there are promising young players on the bench, they won’t be rushed into the team until they are fully ready for the challenge. Despite their current struggles, CSK remain focused on progressing in the tournament.
