The retention window for IPL 2025 closed on October 31, with all 10 teams submitting their lists. Former IPL champions Gujarat Titans (GT) retained five players, including two uncapped talents, using INR 51 crores from their budget, leaving them a remaining auction purse of INR 69 crores.

Leading the GT roster as the first retention is Rashid Khan, who secured the highest salary slab of INR 18 crores. Known for his impact on the field, Rashid’s UK-based agents reportedly pushed for top pay during negotiations. Second on GT’s retention list is Shubman Gill, who, despite taking a slight pay cut to help GT manage finances, will continue as captain for the 2025 season at INR 16.5 crores. Seen as a potential future captain for India, Gill remains central to GT’s ambitions.

Emerging talent Sai Sudharsan follows as the third retention, signed at INR 8.5 crores after an impressive previous season. GT also opted to retain uncapped players Rahul Tewatia and Shahrukh Khan for INR 4 crores each. Both players had commanded higher prices in previous auctions, but this season’s budget cap on uncapped salaries required them to settle for lower amounts.

Notably, GT released veteran pacer Mohammed Shami due to ongoing injury concerns and uncertain availability for the 2025 season. The team will enter the mega auction with just one Right-to-Match (RTM) card, ready to rebuild around its core.
