The BCCI prepares to unveil the IPL 2024 schedule on Thursday, focusing on the first 15 days. Election schedules impact the initial fixtures of the tournament. IPL’s 2024 season promises adjustments due to the overlapping central elections.

IPL 2024 will kick off on March 22 and run until May 26, encompassing 74 matches over 67 days. The one-week extension accommodates the General Elections, a strategy reminiscent of the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections with phased fixture releases.
While the opening match is reportedly set to take place on March 22 between Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore at M. A Chidambaram Stadium, the final schedule for the initial fortnight is yet to be confirmed. Kasi Viswanathan, CEO of the Chennai Super Kings franchise, has hinted at an inaugural ceremony preceding the opening match, a tradition usually reserved for the defending champions.
The IPL 2024 schedule is dependent on the announcement of general election dates to avoid overlapping. The Election Commission is expected to reveal the nationwide polling dates between the second and third week of March. Despite the electoral backdrop, the IPL chairman remains optimistic about keeping the tournament within the country, hinting at the possibility of expanding the venue roster beyond the existing ten centers.
To address logistical challenges and enhance security, the BCCI will initially reveal only the first few IPL 2024 games. The full schedule awaits clarity on election dates in specific states, as mentioned by BCCI official Arun Dhumal.
