Mohammad Yousuf has resigned as the selector of the Pakistan men’s cricket team, citing personal reasons. The former Pakistan captain announced his decision on Sunday, September 29, via a post on X (formerly Twitter). Yousuf expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve the national team and extended his best wishes for their future campaigns.
During his tenure, Pakistan struggled with disappointing results. The team faced an early exit at the 2024 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in the USA and West Indies and later suffered a 0-2 defeat in their home Test series against Bangladesh. Despite these setbacks, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) initially retained Yousuf even after a major reshuffle in the national selection committee.
Yousuf’s resignation comes just weeks before Pakistan’s crucial home Test series against England. The three-match series, set to be played between October 7 and October 28, will take place at Multan and Rawalpindi and is part of the ongoing 2023-25 ICC World Test Championship (WTC) cycle.
Yousuf, who played 90 Tests, 288 ODIs, and three T20Is for Pakistan, was instrumental in shaping the squad for the 2024 T20 World Cup and the series against Bangladesh. His unexpected departure leaves a gap in the selection panel at a critical juncture, as the team gears up to take on a formidable England side.
