Gujarat Titans’ (GT) veteran leg-spinner Rashid Khan has made history by becoming the third-fastest bowler to take 150 wickets in the Indian Premier League (IPL). He achieved this milestone during GT’s IPL 2025 opener against Punjab Kings (PBKS), picking up his first wicket of the season. Only Lasith Malinga (105 matches) and Yuzvendra Chahal (118 matches) have reached 150 IPL wickets faster than Rashid, who accomplished the feat in 122 matches. He is now the 12th bowler to enter the elite 150-wicket club.
Rashid’s impact goes beyond taking wickets. His exceptional economy rate of around 6.8, the best among bowlers with at least 65 IPL wickets, highlights his ability to control the game. His career average of under 18.8 further emphasizes his consistency in T20 cricket.
Rashid started his IPL journey with Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in 2017, becoming their go-to spinner. He took 93 wickets in 76 matches at an impressive economy of 6.33, making him SRH’s second-highest wicket-taker after Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Despite his stellar performances, SRH chose not to retain him before the 2022 mega auction. Since joining GT in 2022, Rashid has been a key figure, taking over 56 wickets in 46 matches. He also claimed his first IPL hat-trick against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in 2023.
Earlier this year, Rashid surpassed Dwayne Bravo to become the highest wicket-taker in T20 cricket. Across all T20 formats, he has taken over 635 wickets in 463 games, including four five-wicket hauls. As IPL 2025 progresses, Rashid is approaching more milestones, needing just two boundaries to reach 100 fours in T20s in Asia and seven sixes to complete 100 maximums. Rashid Khan continues to showcase his brilliance, solidifying his place among the greatest T20 bowlers.
