India and England’s five-match T20I series was expected to be a high-scoring contest, but it has instead been a battle of contrasting bowling attacks. India lead 2-1 heading into the fourth match in Pune on Friday, relying on spin, while England have banked on pace.

India have used four spinners, with only one specialist seamer in each game—Arshdeep Singh in the first two and Mohammed Shami in the third. England, meanwhile, have relied on Mark Wood and Jofra Archer to unsettle India early, before Brydon Carse and Jamie Overton hit hard lengths in the middle overs.
England’s only win came in Rajkot, where Adil Rashid’s legspin turned the game after a late resistance with Wood. Pune’s black-soil pitch is likely to assist spinners again, giving Rashid another opportunity, but India’s Varun Chakravarthy and company will also be a threat.
Sanju Samson and Phil Salt will be under pressure to deliver. Samson, who once impressed in the top order, has struggled against England’s pace, managing just 26, 5, and 3 in the series. Salt, after a stellar IPL and strong showing in the West Indies, has also faltered with scores of 0, 4, and 5.
India could bring back Rinku Singh, with Dhruv Jurel making way. They may also consider adding a seam-bowling allrounder like Shivam Dube or Ramandeep Singh. England might rest either Wood or Archer, bringing in Saqib Mahmood.
Pune’s cool evening conditions and a history favoring teams batting first could play a role. Spinners have dominated recent matches here, including a Ranji Trophy game where they took 34 of 39 non-run-out wickets.
With the series on the line, both teams will be eager to adapt to Pune’s spin-friendly conditions.
