Both Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and stand-in captain Sam Curran of Punjab Kings faced fines for breaches of the Indian Premier League (IPL) Code of Conduct on Sunday, April 21, 2024.
RCB Fined for Slow Over Rate
In the 36th match of the ongoing IPL, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) secured a nail-biting victory over Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) by a mere margin of 1 run. Following their agonizing loss, RCB received further bad news as IPL organizers fined captain Faf du Plessis Rs 12 lakh for maintaining a slow over rate during their match against KKR. This marked the franchise’s first over-rate offense of the season.
Sam Curran Fined for Dissent
In a double-header on Sunday, Punjab Kings faced Gujarat Titans, with GT emerging victorious by 3 wickets. Subsequently, the IPL fined Punjab’s stand-in skipper, Sam Curran, 50% of his match fee under Article 2.8 of the IPL’s code of conduct, which pertains to “showing disagreement at an umpire’s decision.”
Both Teams Struggle in IPL 2024
RCB’s captain, Faf du Plessis, was also fined Rs 12 lakh for maintaining a slow over-rate against Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens. Despite RCB’s improved performance and temperament as a team in this match, they fell agonizingly short of victory by just 1 run.
Punjab Kings’ captain Sam Curran accepted the Match referee’s sanction, fined 50% of his match fee for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct under the level 1 offense of Article 2.8.
Both RCB and PBKS have struggled in the ongoing IPL, with RCB managing just one win and occupying the 10th position on the points table, while PBKS have secured only two wins in eight matches, placing them in a challenging position.
